A Day at the Challenge Course

A day at the Glen Lake Challenge Course can consist of spending half a day or a full day with us on the course. The group has the opportunity to do low ropes, climbing wall, and zip line. Each activity can be scheduled individually or as a combination. Please specify when the group calls to make reservations.

Our Mission

The Challenge Course program is a holistic approach to realizing the potential within us, and to explore how to live more effectively in relation to others. In an effort to experientially move toward a fuller understanding of the idea of leadership, trust, responsibility, communication, roles, and teamwork, each individual will be encouraged to participate fully.

Our Goals

    • For participants to gain problem solving skills and understand conflict management
    • Allow participants to challenge their personal commitment and willingness to risk within the group
    • Expand the groups understanding and experience of what it means to work together as a group
    • Allow for leadership development and awareness of potential in ones self and others
    • For participants to develop relationships within the group appropriate to the groups purpose
    • Expand the groups decision making process and communication skills
    • To give opportunities to groups of all ages to practice the skills above by confronting real challenge
    • Allow the group to reflect upon their experience and how it applies to the group or them as an individual
    • Have fun

Here is a brief description of each activity to give you a better idea of what would be right for your group:

Low Ropes:

The low ropes course consists of a variety of ground level initiatives designed to bring a team together. All of the initiatives are concrete tasks that involve problem solving through teamwork. The tasks themselves, while fun and often challenging, aren’t as important as the process and outcome of what the group itself does. The interaction of the group, the process they use to solve the problem, and the final outcome, are all examined by the group after each initiative. What we believe at Glen Lake Challenge Course is that learning through experience is great, but unless you stop to reflect on that experience, you don’t gain anything from it. We reflect on what we do, so we can then take it and apply it to real life!

Zip Line:

The zip line starts with the participant on the ground, where they then climb the stairs 35-40 feet in the air to the zip line platform. That is where they are hooked into the zip line and sent off to enjoy the ride! The challenges associated with the zip line are more individual ones, but there is still a place for encouragement, support from the group, and teamwork. Some of the challenges the individual will face, such as building confidence, risk taking, and over coming fears, can be addressed in a safe team environment that allows for growth and development within the group.

Climbing Wall:

If your group isn’t up for the zip line, but would still like to add something extra to your day, we do have an indoor climbing wall that can be booked as a part of the challenge course program.

Splash n’ Crash Water Park

Loads of fun for young and old alike, the waterpark features a 24′ high slide with unexpected twists and turns, or hop on an inner tube and float around the lazy river. The tumblebuckets and water cannons are other favorites. If staying dry is your priority, you can still be a part of the fun underneath our big umbrella.

The water park is available for guest or non-profit group use only through a planned retreat, not open to the public.GLC-waterparkGlenLakeCampWaterPark

Miller Activity Center (“MAC”)

The “MAC” is our main indoor recreation facility. It is complete with a full-size basketball court that can be converted to a volleyball court. We also have bleachers for seating for those more inclined to watch. Also included is equipment for ping-pong, foosball, dodgeball, and 4-square. A lobby area with tables is available for board games, cards and conversation. Also, just outside the MAC are two full-size sand volleyball courts, horseshoes, and large open field and that can be used for activities, such as a game of softball or kickball.

Canoes are available during the warm months of the year for our guests to use to canoe on Glen Lake. However, they do have to be reserved ahead of time because a lifeguard is required to be present for any group that would like to use them. Life jackets are required for anyone that goes out on the lake in a canoe.

On the opposite side of the lake from the canoes, we have a fish hut set up where guests are welcome to drop a line to see what they can catch. Our lake is stocked with bass, perch, and catfish. We do operate by a catch and release policy. We provide the fishing poles, or you may bring your own if you like. We ask that you let us know ahead of time that you would like to use the fish hut, so we can have everything ready for you including bait. Using the fish hut and our equipment is included in the cost of your retreat.

Glen Lake camp sits right on the Paluxy river! Guests of all ages can walk down to the river and explore the nature and wildlife it has to offer. You can walk across the Paluxy river and follow a marked trail up to the cross on the hill behind the camp. You can feel the coolness of water before you make it to the top and you will enjoy an amazing view of the camp and the city of Glen Rose! It’s a great place for a group photo!

Sports and Spaces

We have plenty of open space for groups to play any sport they would like! This space also includes a newly updated softball field, sand volleyball court, and a Gaga ball court. We have equipment for almost any game you could imagine. A few of our favorites are: ultimate frisbee, soccer, kick ball, volleyball, softball, football, wiffle ball, horseshoes, 4 square and our top favorite – Gaga Ball. And of course inside our gym we offer basketball, ping pong, pool, hula hoop, jump rope, and foosball.

Super Slide & Iceberg

In addition to the water park, your group can book our lake slide and iceberg. They can both be used at the same time, and life jackets are required for all participants. This must be booked in advance as lifeguards are required for both lake activities.
